Lucifer: A Love Story

Lucifer: A Love Story was performed at the E7arts Momentum multimedia showcase in Stratford, East London

A radical, irreverent and wilfully anachronistic 'take' on Milton’s epic poem, Paradise Lost. The rebel angels in this adaptation have stepped straight out of the films of Sam Peckinpah and Tarantino and speak firmly in the modern day vernacular. Lucifer styles himself/herself as The Original, (as in The Original Rebel), and dishes out names like WildChild, Baby Devious and Marvellous Boy to his devoted followers.

Lucifer: A Love Story attempts to channel some of the didactic Christian philosophy of the poem into a more human, personal examination of the dark side of love. Lucifer was of course the brightest angel in Heaven and when he was passed over in favour of Jesus the sense of rejection was murderous. Lucifer is a spurned lover and is there anything perhaps more unpredictable and dangerous in our own natures?

"I am like a jealous lover - reject me at your risk",

The Original, Lucifer: A Love Story

E7Arts Momemtum

Dir: Jim Kenworth

Cast: Daryyl Clarke, Mark Rose, Gareth Tunley, Katie Warren, Jason Wing,

THE ORIGINAL: "Check it out, rebel-heads - there’s a rumour goin' round back home. Top secret, hush hush, on the QT, an’ all that. A new bunch is gonna be created. A new bunch to make up for the loss of Daddy’s wild-style kids. Ah, he's missing us already. Ain't that something? Apparently, they’re pretty impressive. Almost as good as us. In other words, a nice looking bunch. "
