GANDHI: "Do you want to know what will be my most treasured memory of East London long after I’ve left? My walks along the canal in the early morning – and the conversations I’ve had with night watchmen, factory girls, men and women of the barges, children like yourselves, – O they will stay in the memory, they will stay I’m sure - I’ve seen the best of people during my stay here, and I’m convinced at heart there is neither East nor West, only you, I, everyone, together, one family – and love all around, even in the unlikeliest places, if you will only look for it. The East End remains a life long friend for me – I will feel we are good friends and always will be."
